Are scorpions dangerous?

Why do I have a scorpion problem?

How do I get rid of scorpions?

Like other arachnids, scorpions are beneficial to people because they are predators that help keep other pest populations under control. They catch and kill their prey using their pincers, stinger, and venom. Although all scorpions are dangerous to insects, only one species in California is a serious threat to people; this species is the bark scorpion.

Most scorpions are solitary, which means they live alone and won't typically infest in large numbers. However, if your property provides conducive conditions, you may be attracting scorpions. These conditions include:

  • Food which consists of other bugs

  • Dark and damp places to hide

  • Several different ways for them to get inside
